“Your Crown has been bought and paid for. All you must do is put it on.”

This past Saturday, February 14th we hosted our signature brunch meetup during NBA All Star Weekend at Pennsylvania 6 (132 W. 31st Street). Our topic of the day was ReDefining A Woman's Worth. Our discussions included breaking down the characters of Cookie Lyon and Olivia Pope and how the media portrays a women on television and how we find balance between our business and personal lives while pursuing our dreams.
Here are a 4 tips to help you redefine your worth:
1. Be okay with being paid well – If you settle or expect less, you not only leave your potential on the table, but you leave a lot of money on the table as well.
2. Seek to become someone you admire – You are here to be your most valuable self and to express your gifts and talents fully. We need to surround ourselves with like-minded people who inspire, nurture and support us, while we give the same in return.
3. Be the architect of your life – We are not doing ourselves or anyone else a favor by having the wrong people like us for saying “yes” when we want say “no”.
4. Empowered Thinking - When understood and applied brings about positive change. Strive to make your situation better, making use of the power, skills, and resources that you have, as opposed to acting powerless in the face of a problem.
“When we place the power to define our worth in someone else’s hands, we are often told that we only want to be wanted. This artificial script leaves us with an extremely narrow role: to be a pleaser. If we accept society’s definition and remain disconnected from our authentic desires, our lives are drained of meaning, emotionally and financially. In this emptied state, we fail to take the initiative to negotiate higher salaries or raise our fees to match our true market value.” Brooke Axtell, Forbes.com 2011
